- Cleveland Indians vs. Chicago White Sox
The Cleveland Indians will play their ultimate six games of the regular season away from home. Before they take on the Washington Nationals, the Indians will visit their divisional rivals Chicago White Sox for a three-game series.
It’s a tough schedule for the Indians who are in a must-win situation. They are tied with the Rays at the second spot of the AL wild-card rankings two games behind Oakland. Hereof, the Indians will send Mike Clevinger to the mound tonight in the opening contest with the White Sox.
Clevinger is 12-3 this season, recording a 2.54 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP. The Indians are 7-3 in Clevinger’s last ten starts and 4-0 in his previous four starts on the road. Mike is 3-2 in seven starts and two relief appearances against the White Sox, tallying a 2.54 ERA.
On the other side, Hector Santiago will take the mound for the White Sox. The lefty is 1-1 in two starts and 15 relief apps this season. Interestingly, the White Sox lost all nine games with Santiago on the mound since he’s joined the team for the New York Mets.
The Indians are 33-20 against the left-handed starting pitcher this season. They have won ten of their last 13 games overall and are undefeated in four straight road contests. The White Sox is 4-7 in their last 11 games overall and 2-7 in the previous nine at home.
Clevinger has been pitching well lately, while the Indians covered the spread in five of their last six wins. Although they are 4-6 in the last ten meetings with the White Sox and 2-4 in the previous six in Chicago, I expect them to win the opener Tuesday night.
Hector Santiago was terrible since joining the White Sox, and eight of their nine losses with him on the mound came by two or more runs. Therefore, I’m backing the Indians to cover the spread.
- Cleveland Indians -105 over Chicago White Sox by two or more runs
