And then there were two. With two teams remaining undefeated in the first season of the AAF, the Birmingham Iron will put that undefeated record on the line when they take on the San Antonio Commanders at home on Sunday afternoon. Birmingham is coming off of a decisive victory over the Atlanta Legends, 28-12. The San Antonio Commanders lost their second straight game, falling to the San Diego Fleet, 31-11. Sunday, March 3, 2019, at 3:00 ET at Legion Field, Birmingham, Alabama

Commanders
Implode After Explosive Start, 31-11

Just two plays into their contest against
the San Diego Fleet, the San Antonio Commanders had already recorded an
interception and had a 47 yard touchdown run on the next play. It was looking
like they were going to sink the Fleet, but 28 unanswered points by San Diego
doomed San Antonio as they fell 31-11.

Logan Woodside struggled, completing just 12 of 23 passes for 151 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. He was replaced by Marquise Williams who completed all four of his passes for 21 yards. Trey Williams looked impressive in the ground game, earning 75 yards on seven carries, and Mekale McKay had four catches for 91 yards and a touchdown.

Perez has completed 58.8% of his passes
this season for 596 yards. He has only been intercepted one time this season,
but has yet to throw a touchdown pass in is 102 attempts. Richardson has scored
six touchdowns but is averaging just 2.5 yards on his 59 attempts. As a team,
Birmingham has rushed for just 207 yards in their three contests. Quinton
Patton leads the team in receiving with 11 receptions for 209 yards. Richardson
has added 10 catches for 68 yards.

Brown continues to lead the defense,
recording 17 solo tackles and assisting on nine others this season. He has a
sack and a fumble recovery. The defense has five interceptions and three fumble
recoveries to go along with seven sacks.

The
Winner Prediction

If you follow the way that Birmingham has
played this season, they crushed their opponents in weeks one and three but
struggled in Week 2.  They are favored by
7.0 which would seem like a lot if the trends continued as they had to the
first three weeks. However, San Antonio is just not a good football team. They aren’t
running the ball and their pass attack has looked
mediocre as well. It’s true that Birmingham is not getting great offensive
firepower either, but their defense has been rock solid this season. You go
with the undefeated team until somebody proves they can beat them.

The
Pick:
Birmingham Iron (-7.0) (-110)

The
Total

The total is set at 37.5 for this game,
which seems a little low. While San Antonio has not looked good offensively this
season, they have proven that they can score some points, putting up 29 against
Orlando two weeks ago. They are averaging a little better than 18 points per
game, and we expect at least 15 out of them in this contest. Birmingham is
going to put up 25, so the over sounds sensible. Take the Iron to win, 28-15.

The
Pick:
over 37.5(-110)

Woodside is still expected to be under
center, but he has not been very impressive the season. The San Antonio
quarterback has completed 51% of his passes for 629 yards and five
interceptions. He has just two touchdown tosses this season. The rushing attack
is looking for someone to take the reins, but that looks like it could be
Williams, who averaged 10.7 yards per carry last weekend. McKay has 11 catches
for 207 yards and a touchdown the season. He is averaging 18.8 yards per
reception.

The defense has played well, recording 13
sacks this season already. They are led by Shaan Washington who has three
sacks. Winston Craig has 2.5. De’VanteBausby has two of the teams four
interceptions.

Iron
Remain Undefeated with 28-12 Victory on Road

The Birmingham Iron headed to the road for the first time this last Sunday, looking to remain undefeated. Thanks to a ferocious defense and three touchdowns by Trent Richardson Birmingham would come away with a 28-12 victory. The score was tied at three when Richardson scored from 5 yards out. He would add a touchdown in both the third and fourth quarters, completing a bittersweet afternoon where he had just 46 yards on 17 carries.

Luis Perez completed 17 of 31 passes for
160 yards. The defense was the big story, recording three sacks and
intercepting three passes. Beniquez Brown had 12 tackles to lead the team
