In case anyone was curious, John Elway does not appear to hold grudges. No one would have faulted him for not wanting to have anything to do with Brock Osweiler after he ditched the Broncos for a larger payday in Houston. But that is not the case at all.

Brock is back, Denver fans. He has signed a one-year deal for $775,000 with the Denver Broncos.

“I think with the opportunity we had to get Brock back, we’re excited about that opportunity to have that experience there with Brock,” Broncos GM John Elway said (PFT). “Plus, with Paxton, you never know with the throwing shoulder.”

Two years ago, fans would have been happy to see him sign with the team. After sitting behind Peyton Manning for a few years, many believed he was going to be the next great Broncos quarterback. But he opted to go to Houston instead where he quickly proved he was not even close to ready to take the reins of a team.

NFL fans were shocked when the Cleveland Browns traded for him early in the offseason. It was even more shocking when it sounded like he might win the starter’s job. But, if that was ever really a consideration, the team decided to hand the offense to rookie DeShone Kizer instead.

He didn’t play well enough for the Browns to keep him. Since they really just wanted the second-round pick that came with him, they had no problem letting him go.

Had Paxton Lynch not suffered a shoulder injury that is going to keep him out of action for five weeks, Osweiler would likely still be out of work. With Lynch out, the team needed a back-up for Trevor Siemian they could trust. It certainly wouldn’t be undrafted rookie Kyle Sloter.

So, they brought back Brock Osweiler.

In a perfect world, he’ll never see the field. But Siemian did miss time due to an injury last season. With a game as violent as football, an injury is only a play away for everyone.

More than likely, once Lynch is healthy and capable of playing again, Osweiler will likely be cut. Most teams do not carry three quarterbacks anymore. It is doubtful that they’d keep Osweiler if Lynch is healthy. However, when asked about the possibility, Elway didn’t lean one way or the other.

“Yes, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there,” Elway said (PFT). “As you know, it’s always fluid, if so we’ll cross that bridge when Paxton gets healthy, we’ll see what we have and go from there.”

The Cleveland Browns will probably be rooting for the Broncos to cut him once Lynch is healthy. That way he has a chance to sign with someone else and save them a little money. Since Denver signed him to a $775,000 deal, they are only on the hook for $15.225 million.

When he was with the Broncos the first time, he didn’t look too bad. Maybe being back in Denver will help him find his mojo again.
