  • Washington Nationals vs. St. Louis Cardinals

After upsetting the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS, the Washington Nationals travel to St. Louis for Game 1 of the National League Championship Series. The Cardinals will host the first two games in the best-of-seven series.

As well as the Nationals, the Cardinals eliminated the Atlanta Braves in five games. They thrashed off the Braves 13-1 in a decisive Game 5 on the road, scoring ten runs in the first inning. The Cards set the record for the biggest opening inning in the MLB postseason history.

The Cardinals have been dominating the Nationals lately, winning 13 of the previous 18 head-to-head encounters and seven of the last ten H2H meetings in St. Louis. Likewise, the Cardinals are 5-2 against the Nationals in 2019.

Miles Mikolas should get the starting nod for the Cardinals. The right-hander went 9-14 in the regular season, tallying a 4.16 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. He pitched five innings in a 7-6 victory over the Braves in Game 1, while Mikolas earned a 5-4 victory in Game 4 in just one inning of work. Miles is 2-2 in four starts against the Nats in his career.

Anibal Sanchez will get his second start for the Nationals this postseason. He pitched five innings in a 10-4 loss to the Dodgers, allowing four hits and a run while striking out nine. The right-hander went 11-8 in the regular season, recording a 3.85 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. Sanchez is 2-4 in eight starts against the Cards in his career.

This should be a tight clash, and fatigue could be a factor after both teams played five games in the NLDS. I’m backing the Cardinals to win, considering their tremendous performance in Game 5 against the Braves and their strong H2H record with the Nationals.

  • St. Louis Cardinals -115 over Washington Nationals

  • New York Islanders vs. Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes will look to extend their perfect start of the season, searching for their fifth straight victory. Likewise, the Hurricanes will look for their sixth straight win over the New York Islanders who are 1-2 on the season.

The Islanders finished their three-game homestand with a disappointing 5-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. It was their second loss with Semyon Varlamov between the pipes, so I expect to see Thomas Greiss back on the ice. Greiss made 35 saves in a 4-1 victory to the Winnipeg Jets.

However, the Hurricanes’ offense looks unstoppable at the moment. They’ve scored 16 goals in four outings and still needed two overtimes and a shootout along with one win in the regulation. I expect to see some improvements in their defensive play and a victory over the Islanders.

Carolina is 15-5 in its last 20 outings on the home ice and 9-2 in its previous 11 home encounters with the Eastern Conference. On the other side, the Islanders are 4-5 in their last nine road meetings with the Eastern Conference and 10-10 in their previous 20 outings away from home.

  • Carolina Hurricanes -170 over New York Islanders

  • Colorado Buffaloes vs. Oregon Ducks

The Pac-12 clash at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon, will see the Colorado Buffaloes taking on the Oregon Ducks. The Buffaloes are 3-2 SU and ATS on the season, while the Ducks won four of their five games in 2019, covering the spread on two occasions.

The Ducks are undefeated since Week 1 and a 27-21 loss to the Auburn Tigers. In their previous four outings, the Ducks limited their opponents below eight points. They are scoring 34.2 points per game (36th in the country).

On the other side, the Buffaloes lost two of their last three contests. They are scoring 34.6 points per game (35th), but the Buffaloes’ defense is a big issue, surrendering 31.6 points per contest (103rd). Likewise, their pass defense is allowing 313.6 yards per game (124th).

The Ducks’ QB Justin Herbert has tossed for 1341 yards, 15 touchdowns, and an interception thus far. Oregon’s offense should be able to take advantage of all flaws in Colorado’s defense. Also, the Ducks are 6-1 SU and ATS in their last seven meetings with the Buffaloes. Take the hosts and points.

  • Oregon Ducks -21.0 at -110
