  • Oakland Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners

The Oakland Athletics over the Seattle Mariners is our best MLB betting pick for the second day in a row. The A’s desperately need a win to keep their 1.5-game advantage over Cleveland in the wild-card race.

Oakland will start Mike Fiers who’s enjoying a wonderful season. The A’s ace is 15-4 in 32 starts, tallying a 3.91 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. The Athletics won ten of Mike’s previous 11 starts including a couple of victories over the league leaders, Houston Astros.

Likewise, Fiers is coming off an excellent performance in an 8-0 victory to Texas this past Friday. He allowed just two hits while striking out five in eight innings of work. Fiers is 6-1 in 13 starts after an All-Star and 3-2 in 11 starts against the Mariners in his career.

On the other side, Justus Sheffield will get the ball for the Mariners. The left-hander is 0-1 in six starts and one relief appearance this season, recording a 5.81 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP. The Mariners won three straight games with Justus on the mound.

However, the Athletics are terrific versus the southpaw starting pitcher this season, tallying 34 wins and just 13 losses. Therefore, I expect another strong performance against Sheffield who has just ten appearances in Major League Baseball in his career.

The A’s entered the last night’s clash at T-Mobile Park with an 8-3 record in their previous 11 meetings with the Mariners. Seven of those eight victories came by two or more runs, so take the Athletics to cover.

  • Oakland Athletics -120 over Seattle Mariners by two or more runs

  • San Jose State Spartans vs. Air Force Falcons

The Mountain West showdown at Falcon Stadium will see the San Jose Spartans taking on the Air Force Falcons. The Spartans are coming off a 31-24 victory at Arkansas as 20-point underdogs. The Falcons lost at No. 20 Boise State 30-19 as 7.5-point dogs. Both teams are 2-1 on the season.

The Spartans snapped a 13-game losing streak on the road thanks to five interceptions and 503 total yards on the offensive end. They are averaging 27.3 points per game on 411.0 total yards, allowing 25.3 points in a return on 437.7 total yards.

On the other side, the Falcons are tallying 32.3 points per contest on 419.3 total yards, surrendering 20.0 points in a return on 280.3 total yards.

The Falcons rely on their ground game a lot. They are averaging 316.3 rushing yards per contest, and the Spartans will have a mountain to climb here. San Jose State’s run defense is surrendering 165.7 yards per outing.

Air Force is 6-2 SU and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight outings at home. San Jose State is 2-13 SU and 7-8 ATS in its last 15 showings on the road and 2-11 ATS in the previous 13 road contests played in September. The Falcons are 2-0 SU and 1-1 ATS in two encounters with the Spartans.

I expect the Falcons to take the field highly motivated and bring the game to the visitors. The Spartans upset the odds last week, and I think they cannot put on another strong performance on the road. I would rely on Falcons defense and ground game and take the hosts to cover.

  • Air Force Falcons -18.5 at -110
