  • Chicago White Sox vs. Minnesota Twins

The AL Central showdown from Target Field in Minneapolis will see the Chicago White Sox taking on the Minnesota Twins. While Minnesota is topping the AL Central standings, the White Sox have been eliminated from the playoffs.

Entering Sunday’s clash with Cleveland, the Twins were just 2.5 games ahead of the Indians. That’s why the Twins need to win the opener of a three-game series against the White Sox. Minnesota won 15 of its last 20 meetings with the White Sox and eight of the last ten encounters at Target Field.

The Twins will start Jose Berrios, while the White Sox will counter with Reynaldo Lopez. Berrios is 12-8 this season with a 3.63 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. He’s dominated the White Sox, recording ten wins and two losses in 13 starts in his career.

On the other side, Lopez is 9-13 this season with a 5.35 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. The White Sox are 2-4 in his last six starts, while Lopez is 1-3 in six starts against the Twins in his career.

Interestingly, the Twins are 1-4 in Berrios’ last five starts at home. Hereof, I expect him to bounce back against the White Sox and put on another strong performance. Nine of the Twins’ last 11 home wins over the White Sox came by two or more runs, so I’m backing the hosts to cover.

  • Minnesota Twins -135 over Chicago White Sox by two or more runs

  • Cleveland Browns vs. New York Jets

The Browns opened as 3-point favorites to beat the Jets on the road. However, the Jets lost their starting QB Sam Darnold due to mononucleosis, so the bookies adjusted the odds. Trevor Siemian will be under center for the Jets who lost 17-16 to Buffalo in the opener.

Cleveland disappointed in Week 1, too. The Browns were humiliated at home, suffering a 43-13 defeat against Tennessee. They committed 18 penalties for 182 yards which are the most by the team since 1951. Likewise, Baker Mayfield threw for 285 yards, a touchdown, and three interceptions.

Siemian didn’t play last season and is 13-11 in 24 starts with the Denver Broncos. In 2017, he threw for 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. The Jets’ offense could easily struggle, especially if a shoulder injury affects Le’Veon Bell’s performance. Bell racked up 92 yards from scrimmage against Buffalo.

Both teams will be keen to avoid a loss, but I like the Browns’ spot. They need to be disciplined and play tough defense, visiting a team who just lost its quarterback. Also, Odell Beckham Jr. and Baker Mayfield will be highly motivated to bounce back from a poor display against Tennessee.

The Jets are 1-10 SU and 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 outings. Also, they are 0-5-1 ATS in the last six games at home. While the Jets look like a mess, the Browns are 6-1 ATS follow an ATS loss and 5-3 SU and ATS in their last eight contests overall. Hereof, I’m taking the Browns to cover.
