  • Milwaukee Brewers vs. Miami Marlins

The Milwaukee Brewers are still alive, trailing three games behind the Chicago Cubs who hold the wild-card spot in the National League. Now, they travel to Miami to take on the Marlins in a four-game series at Marlins Park.

These two teams met each other in June, and Miami won a three-game set 2-1 at Miller Park in Milwaukee. The Marlins humiliated the Brewers 16-0 in the opener and won the middle contest 8-3. Milwaukee bounced back with a 5-1 victory in the closing game.

However, the Brewers are 7-4 in their last 11 meetings with Miami and 5-2 in their last seven games overall. Also, the Brewers won three of their last four outings on the road. On the other side, the Marlins lost nine of their last 12 contests overall and five of the previous six at home.

The Brewers are playing in a better form than the Marlins and should have an advantage on the mound. Rookie Robert Dugger will take the mound for the Marlins, and he’s 0-1 in three starts. Miami is 1-2 in that span, while Dugger recorded a 4.00 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP.

Jordan Lyles will toe the slab for the Brewers, and the right-hander has been terrific since joining the team from Pittsburgh. Lyles is 5-1 in seven starts for the Brewers, while he’s 10-8 this season with a 4.46 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP.

The Brewers are in a must-win situation in Miami. They meet the Marlins who lost 91 games in 2019, so I expect the Brewers to win the opener. Lyles is pitching very well at the moment, while Milwaukee’s bats should take advantage of Miami’s rookie pitcher.

  • Milwaukee Brewers -165 over Miami Marlins

  • Houston Texans vs. New Orleans Saints

For the first time since 2015, the Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints will take on each other. The Texans won that previous duel 24-6 in Houston, but the Saints are 2-0 straight up and ATS in two encounters in New Orleans.

The Saints enjoyed a wonderful regular season in 2018, recording 13 wins and three losses. Their offense was third-most efficient in the league with 31.5 points per game. Drew Brees tossed for 3992 yards and 32 touchdowns, while Michael Thomas had 125 receptions for 1405 yards and nine TD.

Likewise, Alvin Kamara added 1592 yards of the scrimmage and 18 TD, so the Saints hope for another strong campaign. They are 0-6 ATS in the last six games at home in September, so the clash with the Texans seems like a nice opportunity to improve their record.

Houston is 3-6-2 ATS in its last 11 outings on the road. The Texans won the AFC South last season, tallying 11 wins and five losses. However, they exited in the wild-card round, losing to Indianapolis 21-7.

The Texans relied on their defense a lot, allowing 18.9 points per game (3rd in the league). Still, they lost Jadeveon Clowney who had 18.5 sacks over the last two years. The head coach Bill O’Brien will have a tall task to replace Clowney and assemble the team’s defense.

After they’ve been robbed in the NFC Championship Game against the Rams, the Saints will be highly motivated to succeed this season. The first step is a victory at home in the opener, so I’m backing the Saints to put on a strong performance and cover against the Texans.

  • New Orleans Saints -6.5 at -110
