  • Detroit Tigers vs. Oakland Athletics

The Oakland Athletics continue their battle for the wild card in the American League. Beating the worst team in baseball, the Detroit Tigers, is a must. The A’s have been dominating the Tigers lately. They won 15 straight H2H duels prior to the opening contest of a three-game series Friday night.

Jordan Zimmermann will take the mound for Detroit, while Oakland will counter with Chris Bassitt. Zimmermann is 1-9 this season with a 6.03 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. Detroit lost five straight games with him on the mound. Bassitt is 9-5 with a 3.67 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP.

The A’s covered the spread in all previous three meetings with the Tigers in 2019. Likewise, the A’s covered the spread in their last seven wins at home. Oakland will have a clear advantage on the mound here, so I’m backing the A’s to beat the Tigers by two or more runs.

  • Oakland Athletics -145 over Detroit Tigers by two or more runs

  • Charlotte 49ers at Appalachian State Mountaineers

The Appalachian State Mountaineers opened the season with a convincing 42-7 victory to East Tennessee State. They put on a strong defensive display, and I expect more of the same against Charlotte. Last year, the Mountaineers’ defense was one of the best in the country.

On the other side, the 49ers opened with a 49-28 victory to Gardner-Webb. They failed to cover a 31.5-point spread and are 1-3 ATS in the last four outings. Likewise, the 49ers are 5-8 ATS in their last 13 showings on the road.

The Mountaineers are 13-3-2 ATS in their last 18 games overall and 8-3-2 ATS in the last 13 at home. They thrashed off Charlotte 45-9 as 14-point road favorites last season. The Mountaineers’ defense should be too much for the 49ers, so take the hosts to cover.

  • Appalachian State Mountaineers -22.5 at -110

  • New England Revolution vs. New York City

Both New England and New York City are playing in a good form at the moment. Hereof, the clash at Yankee Stadium will be a pure joy to watch. New England is unbeaten in four straight games, recording three draws and a win in that span. On the other side, New York is on a four-game winning streak.

Furthermore, New England is undefeated in seven straight outings on the road which is a remarkable feat. However, I think their streak will come to an end in New York. City has won four straight home games and seven of the previous eight at Yankee Stadium.

When it comes to H2H duels, New York has won just one of its last six meetings with New England. Still, the Pigeons are battling for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, so I think they will beat New England and extend their winning streak to five games.

  • New York City to Win at -115
