  • Washington Nationals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Nationals visit the Dodgers for Game 1 of the NLDS, coming off a 4-3 victory to the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League wild-card game. After using both Max Scherzer and Steven Strasburg against Milwaukee, the Nats will start Patrick Corbin. The Dodgers will counter with Walker Buehler.

Corbin is 14-7 this season with a 3.25 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. The Nationals won in his last four starts, while Corbin is 5-9 in 19 starts against the Dodgers who went 30-22 against the left-handers in the regular season.

Buehler is 14-4 this term, tallying a 3.26 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP. The right-hander is 0-1 in two starts against the Nationals, while the Dodgers are 6-1 in his previous seven starts. Buehler has a 3.80 ERA in four games and 23.2 innings of work in the postseason.

The Dodgers are searching for their first championship in 31 years. They lost two straight World Series, hoping that third time’s a charm. The Dodgers won the regular-season series with the Nationals 4-3 and are 9-3 in the previous 12 head-to-head duels.

Likewise, the Dodgers went 59-22 at home and are 13-6 in the previous 19 outings at Dodger Stadium. Hereof, I’m backing the hosts to win the opener.

  • Los Angeles Dodgers -165 over Washington Nationals

  • Buffalo Sabres vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

While the Penguins made it to the playoffs in 2019 after going 44-26-12 in the regular season, the Sabres went 33-39-10 and missed the postseason for the eighth straight year. The Sabres defeated the penguins twice in the preseason, but the regular season is a different story.

The Penguins defeated the Sabres in 15 of their previous 18 encounters. Likewise, the Penguins are 8-1 in their last nine home meetings with the Sabres. Buffalo’s roster remains unchanged, while the Penguins want to show they are still among the NHL’s elite, so I’m taking the hosts to open the season with a victory.

  • Toronto Maple Leafs -170 over Buffalo Sabres

  • Los Angeles Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks

The NFC West clash at CenturyLink Field in Seattle will see the Los Angeles Rams taking on the Seattle Seahawks. Both teams are 3-1 on the season, but the Rams are coming off a tough 55-40 loss to Tampa Bay. On the other side, the Seahawks outlasted Arizona 27-10 in Week 4.

Despite throwing for 517 yards against the Buccaneers, Jared Goff was picked off three times. He’s off to a poor start on the season, tossing for 1254 yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions. WR Cooper Kupp is leading the way for the Rams. He already has 32 receptions for 388 yards and three touchdowns.

On the other side, the Seahawks bounced back from a 33-27 defeat to New Orleans in Week 3. Russell Wilson is playing very well, throwing for 1141 yards and eight touchdowns while adding 19 totes for 88 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

The Rams won both their meetings with the Seahawks in 2018. Also, they are 6-2 SU and 4-4 ATS in their last eight encounters with the Seahawks. On the other hand, Seattle is 11-3 SU and 10-4 ATS in its previous 14 home matchups with the Rams.

This is a tricky game to bet on. The Seahawks’ defense is allowing 22.2 points per game, while the Rams are surrendering 26.0 points per contest. Both teams possess a lot of offensive weapons, so we could see a high-scoring affair.

The total has gone over in the previous three head-to-head duels with the average scoring of 60.0 points. Taking the over seems like the best choice, but I would rather avoid betting on this clash.

  • Over 49.5 points at -110

  • Temple Owls vs. East Carolina Pirates

Over the last five years, the Temple Owls went 5-0 SU and ATS against the East Carolina Pirates with an average winning margin of 22.8 points. The Owls routed the Pirates 49-6 as 10-point favorites last season and beat them by 24 points on the road in 2017.

Temple is coming off a 24-2 victory to Georgia Tech, covering a 9-point spread. The Owls are 3-1 SU and ATS on the season and 9-3 SU and 8-4 ATS in their last 12 games overall. They are surrendering 17.2 points per game (tied 22nd in the country) on 284.2 total yards (19th).

The Owls’ defense should make a difference in this clash. The Pirates are scoring just 21.4 points per contest (111th). They are 3-2 SU and 2-3 ATS on the season, winning two in a row over William & Mary 19-7 and Old Dominion 24-21. Still, the Pirates were outscored 76-16 in two games at NC State and Navy.

Also, the Pirates are only 1-5 SU and ATS in their last six home games when listed as double-digit underdogs. The Owls, on the other side, are 5-1 SU and ATS in their previous seven outings on the road as double-digit favorites. I’m looking for these trends to continue.
