- New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers
The New York Yankees take on the Detroit Tigers in the middle contest of a three-game series at Comerica Park in Detroit. The Yankees are listed as strong favorites for a reason after losing 12-11 in the opener last night.
The Yanks continue their battle for the best record in the league. Entering Tuesday’s games, the Yankees were tied with the Houston Astros at the top of the American League, as both teams had a 95-50 record.
The Yankees are riding a four-game winning streak and have won 13 of their last 17 games overall. Also, they’ve won eight of their previous nine outings on the road. On the other side, the Tigers lost 13 of their last 16 contests overall and 11 of their previous 13 outings at home.
The Tigers are still the worst team in the league and have the worst home record by far. They have lost 51 of their 69 outings at Comerica Park thus far. Also, the Tigers are 18-58 against the teams with a winning record.
While the Yankees are the second-most efficient team in the league with 5.77 runs per game, the Tigers are the most inefficient team in baseball with 3.64 runs per contest. The Yanks’ pitching staff is 13th in the league with a 4.36 ERA. The Tigers’ pitching staff is 28th with a 5.20 ERA.
The Yankees should start CC Sabathia tonight. They put Sabathia on the injured list ten days ago after veteran pitcher had knee issues. Sabathia (4.93 ERA, 1.40 WHIP) feels better, but even if he doesn’t return tonight, I expect the Yankees to dominate the Tigers.
Matthew Boyd will toe the slab for the Tigers. The lefty is 8-10 this season with a 4.57 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. Although Boyd won two straight contests, the Tigers are 3-7 in his last ten starts. Matthew is 1-2 in four starts against the Yankees who are 30-16 versus the left-handed starter in 2019.
The Yankees’ offense should be too much for Matthew Boyd and Detroit’s bullpen. The Tigers allowed 32 runs in four home games prior to the opening contest against the Yankees who have scored 20 runs in their last three duels of a four-game set at the Red Sox.
Likewise, eight of the Yankees’ last ten wins and 12 of the Tigers’ previous 15 losses came by two or more runs. Hereof, take the Yankees to cover.
- New York Yankees -130 over Detroit Tigers by two or more runs
