NFL Week 3:4:25 ET on Sunday, September 23, 2018

Two teams who are looking to establish an identity for themselves meet on Sunday when the Dallas Cowboys travel to Washington to take on the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle has won the last two meetings between these two teams, most recently in December of last year when they beat the Cowboys in Dallas, 21-12. That gave Seattle victories in three of the last four meetings between these two teams dating back to 2012. Despite the loss, the Cowboys held Russell Wilson to just 93 yards passing.

Big Defense Makes Giants Small in Cowboys 20-13 Victory

With the offense struggling, the Dallas Cowboys leaned on their defense on Sunday night, and they came up big, helping to deliver a 20-13 victory over the New York Giants. The defense allowed just 255 total yards and recorded six sacks by six different players in the victory.

Dallas would jump out to a 13-0 lead. Dak Prescott connected on a 64-yard touchdown pass to Tavon Austin to put the Cowboys on top by seven just 94 seconds into the game. Brett Maher would add to field goals before New York would finally get on the board as the Cowboys led 13-3 heading into the half.

Dallas held New York to 8 of 17 on third down conversions and recovered a fumble. The performance moved the Cowboys into fifth in the NFL in total defense.

Trubinsky Outduels Wilson in Bears 24-17 Victory

In a contest where neither team was able to muster much of a ground attack, the two quarterbacks were on display as Chicago Bears starter Mitchell Trubisky threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns two outduel Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson in the Bears 24-17 victory.

The Bears would take the lead with a little less than five minutes left in the first quarter when Trubinsky passed to Trey Burton for a 3-yard touchdown. Chicago would add a field-goal before Sebastian Janikowski added a 56-yard field goal as time expired on the first half, to pull Seattle back within seven.

Coming out of the locker room, Chicago would score just 45 seconds into the second half when Trubisky pass to Anthony Miller for a 10-yard touchdown. Wilson responded right away, connecting with Tyler Lockett for a 19-yard touchdown to pull the Seahawks back within seven.

Seattle had a chance to tie the score, but Prince Amukamara intercepted a Wilson pass and returned it 49 yards for a touchdown. With 14 seconds left in the game, Wilson connected with Will Dissly for a 2-yard touchdown pass, but they were unable to retrieve the onside kick as a Chicago Bears won 24-17.

Trends:

Dallas:

  • 3-0-1 ATS against teams with a losing record.
  • 5-1 ATS in their last six games on the road against teams with a losing record at home.
  • 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games on the road.

Seattle:

  • 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games.
  • 0-4-1 ATS in their last five games in September.
  • 1-5 ATS in their last six games at home.

The Winner Prediction

The Cowboys have won seven of the last 10 meetings between these two teams against the spread and they are 4-1 in the last five meetings against the spread between these two teams in Seattle. Seattle may have won the last two meetings between these two teams, but this is a team on the decline. They still have not proven they can establish a running game in Wilson is left with a rather mediocre receiving corps. This would be a great victory for Dallas.

The Pick: Dallas Cowboys (+1), (-105)

The Total

In the last two meetings between these two teams, the total has gone under in it has gone under in four of the last five. That is a pretty good bet to continue here.

The Pick: Under 41.5 (-109)
