A typical piece of advice given to novice gamblers is not to wager what you can’t afford to lose. While sound advice, it ignores what should be common sense—no one likes to lose.

Of course, when you gamble that is a risk you have to take. But that is also why it helps to do as much homework as you can make an informed decision.

However, in the wide world of sports, games do not always play out as expected. Even the most informed decision can end up being wrong. So, you end up losing your money anyway even though you did everything right.

Well—that’s no fun. But what if you could get back some of the money you lost? Through FanDuel’s insurance promotions you can.

The FanDuel Sportsbook is currently running three different insurance promotions:

•    Multi-Sport Parlay: Place a parlay with at least four legs in any sport and market; odds can be no shorter than -200 for each leg. Should one of the four legs not hit, you will be refunded up to $25 per eligible wager.

•    NHL Tuesday OT: While watching an overtime game is great, if you have money on the outcome it can be aggravating. But when you bet on an NHL game on Tuesday, your wager is protected. Should your team lose, you will be refunded up to $25 per game.

•    College Basketball Halftime: College hoops are a lot of fun to watch and even more exciting when you have a little money down. When your team is up at the half, and you have money on them, you are on Cloud Nine. But halftime leads often do not mean anything. Teams leading at the break lose all the time.

Wouldn’t it be nice to get some of your money back if/when that happens? Through this promotion, you can—but only for games played over the weekend (Saturday and Sunday only during the regular season).

There are, of course, terms and conditions that apply to each of the above promotions. Should one of the three scenarios apply to your wager, FanDuel will credit your account with up to $25. But it is only credit; you can not just cash it out immediately. Before you can withdraw any winnings, you will need to place another wager of the credited amount or more first.

The refund is also only good for seven days. Fail to make another wager within a week, and the credit disappears.

Gambling can be a lot of fun. Placing a wager can make a boring game exciting, and exciting one thrilling, and a thrilling one too much for the average person to handle. The possibility of losing is part of what makes it as intoxicating as it can be. But should you lose—well, then it can be a little hard to get yourself excited to put money down on another game.

But if you do not lose everything, then it takes some of the sting out of losing. Is there anything as exciting as placing a bet with House money rather than your own? Probably, but winning with House money is pretty great as well.

Take advantage of one of FanDuel’s insurance promotions, and you’ll get a chance to do just that.
