LeBron James will go down as one of the best players ever to pick up a basketball. Some would say that he is the GOAT while many more would just say he is one of the GOATs. The most common comment his detractors throw back at him is a lack of championships. Yes, he’s lived in the NBA Finals for much of the last decade. However, he’s lost more than he’s won.
To be fair, no player can win a championship on his own. But when their team loses, people remember the superstar lost and not so much the team he played for during the series.

So, if he is going to change the narrative at all, he needs to win a couple more titles before he decides to call it a career. But it is starting to look like that might be easier said than done.

For much of the last year, it has appeared as if it was a foregone conclusion that James would form the net super team in Los Angeles with Paul George. Things began to look even better when the news broke that Kawhi Leonard wants to play for the Lakers as well—and wants out of San Antonio now.
Even if he was just joined by one of those guys, the Lakers have a talented roster. If they acquire Leonard, as long as they don’t have to give up too much, they’ll still be in great shape. But now it is starting to look like the next great super team may not happen.
Paul George has done his part and opted out of his contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder. But when he talks of “unfinished business” it sounds like he’s planning on staying.
San Antonio initially balked at the notion of trading one of the best players in the NBA to a conference rival, but they appear to be at least talking to the Lakers now. However, the Boston Celtics are making a good pitch as well
So, there is a very good chance that there might not be anyone coming to join James in LA. Rumor has it that he does not want to be the first to sign in case no one else does. If you believe the rumors, it sounds like he might be getting a little desperate. According to Stephen A. Smith, James reached out to Kevin Durant about joining him in LA.
He also heard what Durant’s response was:
“I don’t know what Kevin Durant’s response to him was, but I will tell you that what I did hear is behind the scenes Kevin Durant was like, ‘Why would I do that? As far as I’m concerned LeBron James is a big-time player and what have you, but the way I look at it is I should be perceived as the best in the world. I’m the reigning two-time champion. I’m the reigning two-time NBA Finals MVP. Why would I think about doing something like that?’”
But now, according to the latest rumor, he did not contact Durant and is likely to sign with the Lakers even if they don’t get Leonard.
He’s not going to win another title in Cleveland with how the team is currently constructed. It sounds like he’s been busy burning bridges with the Cavaliers. So, if LA isn’t going to happen and the Cavaliers are not an option, what’s he going to do? Where can he win a title?
Easy—he’ll be going to Houston.
