• In 1992 when it opened, the Georgia Dome was the largest domed structure in the world. It’s been topped three times since then, with the current record holder being National Stadium in Singapore, finished in 2015.

• In 1995 after a severe rainstorm hit the area, water broke through the roof and into the stadium. Even during a game, the panels could be seen moving in the wind. The roof’s section didn’t cave in until after fans had left the stadium, but repairs were made before the next game to ensure it wouldn’t happen again.

• It’s been the site of the NCAA Men’s Final Four Basketball Championship in 2002, 2007, and again in 2013, in addition to the regional finals and finals in 2001, 2004, 2006, and 2012.

• It was the home of the 1996 Summer Olympics featuring the basketball games on one half of the facility, while the other half held the artistic gymnastics competitions.
