A multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena in Glendale, Arizona, the Gila River Arena is the home-ice for the Arizona Coyotes of the National Hockey League.

Before the name was changed to Gila River Arena, the arena was first named Glendale Arena and prior to that, Arena.

In addition to being the home for the National Hockey League’s Arizona Coyotes, the arena served as home for the former Arizona Sting of the National Lacrosse League. After the delay of the 2008 NLL Season due to a Collective Bargaining Agreement dispute, and the team later was defunct in 2009.

The total price tag of the construction for the Gila River Arena was $220 million upon its completion.

• Once IceArizona acquired the ownership of the NHL Coyotes they then hired the Philadelphia-based management company, Global Spectrum on October 10, 2013.

• Construction of the arena started on April 3, 2002 and was completed at a fast pace just over one year later with the opening of the venue held on December 26, 2003.

• The arena was originally selected as the location for the 2006 National Hockey League’s All-Star Game, but the game was later cancelled due to the lockout of the 2004-05 season and a dispute between players and owners in the NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement.

• The venue doesn’t just serve as the home-ice for the Arizona Coyotes, it’s also been the designated site for PBR’s annual Built Ford Tough Series Bull Riding Tour since 2004.
