Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is great at what he does. When he is on the field his decision-making ability is unquestioned. He is good at what he does when he steps on the football field. Off the field, however, is another matter altogether.
It appears that Elliot was involved in another incident. To be fair, he was not arrested and he was not named in any police reports. But according to several reports, he was involved in an altercation Sunday night at a bar in Dallas.

When police arrived at the Clutch Bar Sunday night they came across a 30-year old male that had been assaulted. But he would not say or did not know who had assaulted him. He was taken to a nearby hospital and so his non-life-threatening injuries could be treated. Elliot was not present when the police arrived.

The incident was first brought to life by a local Dallas radio station, 103.5 FM the Fan, but has since been picked up by just about every major news outlet.
Details on what happened and who was involved are sketchy, to say the least, but according to TMZ (h/t PFT), the ‘victim’ was involved in a verbal altercation with a woman in Elliot’s party. At some point, Elliot stepped in and ended up punching him.
This assessment of the events was supported by at least one supposed ‘witness’ on Twitter.
For all we know, Elliot could have done absolutely nothing. He may not have even been there. If he was there and did get involved in something, it sounds like it could have been for something no one should fault him over.
Dez Bryant suggested on Twitter that he could have been defending himself.
According to Mike Fisher of 105.5 FM The Fan, Elliot and the person he allegedly punched may be friends.
Skeptics are quick to reply to that by asking how come he didn’t just stick around and tell his side. The reason to that is obvious. Why a superstar in the NFL like him does something is irrelevant to the NFL and in the court of public opinion. All they see is the action. Right or wrong, they waste no time in condemning him for it.
The NFL has already stated that it is investigating the incident.
So—what does this mean for the Dallas Cowboys and Elliot? No arrest was made. His name didn’t show up in any police reports. There is no evidence he did anything. The only reason why the incident is even being talked about is that some people claim Elliot was involved.

But an incident like this could end up being the icing on the suspension cake. According to Fisher, the charges Elliot is facing with the NFL do not involve anything of a legal/illegal nature. Instead, they are more about questionable behaviors that the league would like him to limit.
Of that, there have been plenty starting with the domestic violence accusations. There was the visit to the marijuana dispensary in Seattle. Not illegal, but considering the NFL’s stance on marijuana, not a good decision either. There was the time his buddy was arrested for carrying a gun in a nightclub, and the internet went nuts because Elliot was seen talking to police. Oh—and let’s not forget the infamous St. Patrick’s Day parade incident.
Rumor has it, that the NFL is planning on suspending him, but it will be interesting to see if that rumor proves true and if so how the NFLPA reacts. Technically, he has not done anything wrong. The legal system did not see fit to charge him with anything for the alleged domestic violence incident. Visiting a marijuana dispensary is legal. Having idiot friends is not against the law. As for the latest incident, there is no evidence he did anything.
But the NFL has handed down punishment in the past without tangible proof of any actual wrongdoing.
