A multi-purpose stadium located in Houston, Texas, the NRG Stadium is primarily the home of the NFL’s Houston Texans.

The stadium’s seating capacity can reach up to 71,795 and has a total playing surface of 1,900,000 square feet within its confines.

In addition to being the home of the Houston Texans, it’s also the home of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Texas Bowl, and a number of other events such as some USA National Soccer games.

On February 1, 2004 the stadium hosted its first Super Bowl, Super Bowl XXXVIII and will again host one in 2017 as Super Bowl LI is played there.

The stadium is located in NRG Park, which is a collection of Houston Stadiums that also includes the Astrodome.

Work on the stadium began on March 9, 2000 and ended up with a total price tag of $353 million upon its completion.

History

• On February 1, 2004 the stadium played host to Super Bowl XXXVIII between the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers, with the Patriots winning the game by a score of 32-29 with an attendance of 71,525.

• The Texans hosted their first Playoff game in history there on January 7, 2012, as they beat the Cincinnati Bengals by a final score of 31-10 in the AFC Wild Card game. Which also tied the largest crowd in the stadium’s history with 71,525 in attendance.

• The stadium has hosted a number of notable College Football Games, including the Texas Bowl, the Big 12 Championship Game in 2002 and 2005, and the Bayou Classic between Southern and Grambling State in November of 2005.

• On August 16, 2013 the stadium revealed its new video screens, the second largest of their kind, with a total square footage of 14,549 which topped AT&T Stadium’s video screens in Arlington, TX. This mark was again topped by Everbank Field in Jacksonville.
