The Los Angeles Rams met the first of four consecutive very tough opponents Sunday in the Green Bay Packers. If they make it past all four, then there is a solid chance that they could end the season with an undefeated record. But first, they had to do something that is never easy—get past Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.
As could be expected, it was a challenge.

But as it turns out, it was one that they could overcome. Although it certainly didn’t look good for most of the first half.

The Packers got on the board first with a one-yard touchdown run by Jamaal Williams on Green Bay’s second drive of the game. They were able to stretch the lead out to ten points early in the second quarter with a 41-yard Mason Crosby field goal.
It wasn’t surprising that Rodgers was able to move the ball. But it was a little surprising the Packers defense was able to hold the Rams offense at bay for almost the entire first half. The Rams didn’t actually get on the board until late in the second when Mark Barron tackled Aaron Jones in the end zone for a safety.
The play seemed to spark the offense who were able to get in the end zone finally on a one-yard pass from Jared Goff to Josh Reynolds. But the two-point conversion failed, making the score 10-8, Green Bay, at the half.
The second half was when things really got interesting.
Green Bay managed to tack a field goal on with their opening drive of the half. But then the Rams got into the end zone on their next two drives. After being down by ten early on, the Rams now had a ten-point lead with 1:50 to go in the third.
But then Aaron Rodgers got to work. Before the third quarter would end, the Packers would tack on seven after an Aaron Jones 33-yard run. The Rams were able to move the ball on their next possession but had to settle for a field goal and a 26-20 lead.
However, there was still plenty of time on the clock. But Aaron Rodgers never needs much. With 8:50 left in the game, he connected with Marquez Valdes-Scantling on a 40-yard touchdown. Just like that, Green Bay had the lead again.
But the lead was only a single point. Sure enough, the Rams were able to tack on a field goal and regain the lead. However, they made one mistake in the process—they left too much time on the clock, 1:56.
That is until Ty Montgomery fumbled the ensuing kickoff—one that he wasn’t supposed to have even returned.
“The plan there is to stay in the end zone,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after the game. “… But that’s what those games come down to. There’s decisions and Ty’s in that decision situation, and I’m sure Ty was trying to make a play.”
Todd Gurley got the first down the Rams needed, and they won the game.
The road will not get any easier for Green Bay. Next for them is a trip to Foxboro for a game with the Patriots on Sunday Night Football. Los Angeles will have another challenge on hand when they travel to New Orleans to play the Saints.
