College Football Bowl Season

After an exciting conclusion to the college football regular season, bowl season is in full swing. Of course, one of the flaws of bowl season is that there are almost too many games. Sometimes it’s tough to know what games are worth checking out and what games aren’t. Obviously, the closer we get to New Year’s Day, the better the games get. However, here are six of the more under-rated bowl games that you’ll want to make a point to watch.

Frisco Bowl: Louisiana Tech vs SMU

This game lacks name programs, but if you haven’t seen the SMU offense this season, you’re in for a treat. The Mustangs averaged over 40 points per game this season. The wide receiver tandem of Courtland Sutton and LSU transfer Trey Quinn is reason enough to watch. SMU heac coach Chad Morris, the architect of the offense, is on his way to Arkansas, but the Mustangs will still be a fun bunch to watch against an average Louisiana Tech team.

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl: Central Michigan vs Wyoming

Most people have heard the name Josh Allen because he’s considered a top NFL prospect. But how many people have actually watched Wyoming play this year? Well, now is your chance. He’s coming off an injury, but he’s hoping to be able to play. Even if he can’t, Central Michigan quarterback Shane Morris is also worth checking out. He started his career at Michigan and may have played his way onto the NFL radar late in the season.

Birmingham Bowl: Texas Tech vs South Florida

If you want offense, this is a must-see bowl game. Texas Tech may or may not believe in trying to play defense, but they have one of the most dynamic passing attacks in the country behind quarterback Nic Shimonek. South Florida can also put points on the board, although they do it with an amazing rushing attack led by quarterback Quinton Flowers. It wouldn’t be a shock to see these two teams combine for over 100 points.

Dollar General Bowl: Appalachian State vs Toledo

Again, the name-brand programs are lacking in this matchup, but the talent definitely isn’t. Appalachian State won a share of the Sun Belt title for the second straight year, while Toledo ran away with the MAC championship. These are two of the best Group of Five teams you’ll find this side of Central Florida.

Pinstripe Bowl: Iowa vs Boston College

For a Big Ten vs ACC matchup, this game doesn’t have a lot of hype. However, the Pinstripe Bowl is played in Yankee Stadium, meaning this is the only bowl game where you may see two teams playing in snow. Even if there isn’t a snow bowl to watch, you have to check out Boston College running back A.J. Dillon. As a freshman, he ran for over 1,400 yards, and half of that came in the final four games of the season. He has an impressive blend of power and speed and could be a Heisman contender next season.

Foster Farms Bowl: Arizona vs Purdue

Speaking of Heisman favorites for next season, you have to see Arizona quarterback Khalil Tate. He didn’t begin the season as the starter, but he’s definitely the quarterback of the future for Arizona. With his athleticism, he’s the ideal quarterback for Rich Rodriguez’s offense. The Purdue defense will give him a tough test, but he’s still a player you’ll want to check out this bowl season.
