There’s plenty of action across the country on Saturday, June 1, 2019, including 15 games in Major League Baseball and Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues, but we’ll take a closer look at Major League Soccer as well, as there are nine games on today’s schedule.

First, let’s see what’s happened in the MLS thus far with 169 of 408 regular-season behind us which means 41.0% of the regular season is completed. The home team won 51.0% of all contests; the visitors were victorious in 26.0% of those 169 games, while 23.0% were finished in a draw.

We saw 484 goals which is 2.86 per game on average, and both teams found the net in 55.0% of all tilts. The hosts are tallying 1.64 goals per game, while the visitors are averaging 1.22 goals per contest.

You can notice that Major League Soccer is pretty efficient this season, so betting on the totals seems like a reasonable choice. While 53.0% of all games so far had three or more goals in the total, 30.0% had at least four goals in the total. The average odds on the over 2.5 goals are around -150, and the odds on the over 3.5 goals are quite tempting around +150.

Now, let’s see what can we expect from today’s games. The bookies are looking for a bunch of goals at Providence Park in Portland where the Timbers welcome the Western Conference leader Los Angeles FC. Portland has a 17:23 goal difference in 12 outings which is 3.3 goals per contest, while ten of their 12 games saw three or more goals in the total.

On the other side, Los Angeles FC has a 36-11 goal difference in 15 outings which is 3.1 goals per game, and nine of their 15 contests had at least three goals in the total. Interestingly, the Timbers will play at home for the first time this season, so I expect them to find the net against sturdy Los Angeles’ defense.

We saw both teams scoring along with three or more goals in the total in three of four head-to-head duels last season. Therefore, take both teams to find the net along with over 2.5 goals.

The odds are set around -150 on the over 2.5 goals in these five matchups – Chicago Fire at Atlanta United, Real Salt Lake at New York Red Bulls, San Jose Earthquakes at DC United, FC Cincinnati at Colorado Rapids, and Sporting Kansas City at Houston Dynamo.

The bookmakers are skeptical about high-scoring affairs in three contests – Orlando City at Montreal Impact, New York City at Columbus Crew, and Seattle Sounders at FC Dallas.

The reigning champions Atlanta United has the best defense in the Eastern Conference and ten of their 14 games saw fewer than three goals in the total, while they kept their net intact in the last four outings at home. Still, Chicago allowed 13 goals in its seven showings on the road, but the odds on the over are not attractive.

Real Salt Lake has a 10:15 goal difference in eight outings on the road, and six of those eight tilts had three or more goals in the total. The Red Bulls bagged 13 goals in eight games at home, but just one of the last five head-to-head duels between these two foes had more than a couple of goals in the total.

DC Unites and San Jose should combine for three or more goals, considering the Earthquakes fragile defense that allowed 24 goals in 13 games so far. The similar case is with the clash in Houston where the hosts have netted 15 times in eight games, while Kansas City’s defense is identical to San Jose’s with 24 goals allowed in 13 showings.

Finally, the worst offense in the league meets the worst defense in the MLS, as Cincinnati visits Colorado, and this is often a poor combination for a high-scoring game.

Elsewhere, keep eyes on the matchup between Montreal and Orlando. The Montreal Impact has a 4:3 goal difference in five games at home, and just one of these five tilts had more than two goals in the total, while nine of Montreal’s 11 showings on the road had three or more goals in the total. With the odds on the over 2.5 goals at -106, this one is worth a try.
